“They say corruption steals your humanity. But what if you trade
it willingly? What if you embrace the darkness for power? I chose this.
The Rot gave me speed,
strength, and purpose. And all it cost… was everything I was. Worth
it.”

Rot Assassin - Corrupted
Elite Killer
Description
Rot Assassins are the horrifying result of a deliberate choice: trading humanity for power by willingly embracing advanced Sky-Rot infection. Unlike most corrupted who fight the progression, Assassins accelerate it, using alchemical treatments and corruption exposure to reach Stage 2-3 while retaining tactical consciousness. The result is an elite killer who combines human intelligence with supernatural abilities granted by the Rot.
What makes Rot Assassins particularly terrifying is that they’re not mindless monsters—they’re calculated hunters who’ve weaponized their own corruption. They move with inhuman speed, strike with venom-coated blades, and disappear into shadows that seem to welcome them. They’re Stage 2-3 corrupted but maintain enough consciousness to plan, adapt, and kill with precision. They’re what happens when someone asks “What if I became the monster?” and follows through.
Most Rot Assassins work as mercenaries, hired by those desperate or amoral enough to employ them. Some serve the Rot-Touched faction as elite protectors. Others are independent operators who kill for money, ideology, or the simple fact that it’s what they’re built for now. All are extremely dangerous. All are infectious. And all have made a trade they can never unmake.
Physical Characteristics
Appearance
Build: - Lithe, predatory (corruption warps toward speed) - Unnaturally flexible (bones/joints altered) - Moving with inhuman grace - Silent, flowing motion (unnatural stillness)
Corruption Stage: - Stage 2-3 (advanced but conscious) - Extensive black veining across body - Skin gray-tinged, cold to touch - One or both eyes affected (glowing corruption) - Beginning physical deformation (subtle)
Clothing: - Tattered black leather armor - Dark cloaks (shadow blending) - Face wraps or masks (hide corruption) - Minimal gear (speed over protection) - Everything darkened, muted (stealth)
Weapons: - Twin daggers or short swords (preferred) - Blades coated with corruption (infectious) - Throwing knives (poisoned) - Garrote wire (silent kills) - Corruption itself (touch spreads Rot)
Distinguishing Features: - Black veins visible through skin - Corrupted eye(s) glowing sickly green-purple - Moves like liquid shadow - Leaves faint corruption trail - Presence feels wrong (reality distortion)
Behavior and Combat
Assassin Tactics
Approach: 1. Observe target from distance (patient stalker) 2. Wait for isolation (separate from allies) 3. Strike from stealth (backstab opportunity) 4. If discovered, use speed and corruption abilities 5. Flee if outmatched (survival instinct remains)
Combat Style: - Stealth and ambush (primary) - Extreme speed (enhanced by corruption) - Hit-and-run tactics - Corruption-coated weapons (every hit infectious) - Shadow manipulation (minor, enhanced stealth) - Tactical retreat if necessary
Special Abilities: - Shadow Step: Brief teleport through corruption (short distance) - Venom Strike: Weapons inflict corruption damage over time - Inhuman Speed: Attacks twice in quick succession - Corruption Touch: Melee attacks spread Stage 1 infection (5% chance) - Pain Immunity: Corruption suppresses pain signals
Weaknesses: - Light (constellation magic, holy weapons) - Fire (purifying element) - Low defense (speed over armor) - Progressing corruption (eventually lose consciousness) - Isolation (work alone, can’t call for help)

Geographic Distribution
Primary Habitat: - The Hollow (corrupted stronghold) - Deep Murky Chasm - The Murk corrupted zones - Anywhere darkness and corruption overlap
Hunting Grounds (Contracts): - Skyport Eos (urban assassinations) - Ironhold (political killings) - Trade routes (ambush targets) - Anywhere a contract leads

Lore and History
Origin: The First Embraced
The first Rot Assassins emerged around 200 S., when a group of elite killers realized that Stage 1-2 Rot infection granted speed, strength, and pain immunity—advantages for their profession. Rather than fight the corruption, they embraced it, using Alchemist Kael’s early compounds to control progression.
The experiment succeeded. And it failed.
They gained power. They became faster, stronger, deadlier. But they also lost pieces of themselves—emotions dulled, humanity faded, the Voice Beneath whispered constantly. Most eventually progressed to Stage 4 and lost consciousness entirely. But a few managed to arrest development at Stage 2-3, remaining tactical while wielding corruption as a weapon.
These survivors became the template. They trained others. They refined techniques. And by 287 S., Rot Assassins have become a known (if rare) threat—elite killers who’ve traded their souls for the ultimate edge.
The Choice
Every Rot Assassin made the same choice: power over humanity. Some did it for survival (already infected, might as well use it). Some did it for ideology (join the corruption to understand it). Most did it for simple pragmatism (corruption makes you unstoppable, so embrace it).
But the choice is irreversible. Once you deliberately accelerate to Stage 2-3, there’s no going back. Alchemist Kael’s Compound Theta-7 doesn’t work on willing subjects. The corruption knows you chose it. And it doesn’t let go.
Known Assassins
Vex Shadowhand: - Elite assassin serving Merchant Vex (same person?) - Stage 2 corruption, fully controlled - Political killings specialist - Allegedly unkillable (always escapes)
The Gray Blade (legendary): - First known Rot Assassin (circa 200 S.) - Perfected corruption-control techniques - Trained dozens before progressing to Stage 4 - Now a Hollow-Walker, but some claim consciousness remains
Game Mechanics
Encounter Context

Rewards: - Excellent coin (they’re well-paid) - Corrupted weapons (powerful but risky) - Assassination contracts (quest hooks) - Corruption vials (alchemical ingredients) - Stealth gear (useful for player)
Quest Hooks

Combat Tips
Strengths: - Extreme speed (hard to hit, attacks twice) - Stealth (can disappear mid-combat) - Infectious weapons (every hit dangerous) - High damage (assassin burst) - Smart (tactical, adapts)
Weaknesses: - Low HP for elite (glass cannon) - Low defense (speed over armor) - Light vulnerability (holy magic, fire) - Corruption progressing (time limit on consciousness) - Works alone (no backup)
Strategy: - Use light/holy effects (disrupt corruption) - Area attacks (can’t dodge everything) - Keep allies close (prevents backstab) - Fire weapons (purifying damage) - Don’t chase if they flee (probably trap) - Cure corruption immediately after fight (infection risk)

“I was dying. Stage 1, maybe six months left. So I made a choice:
die slowly, or live dangerously. I chose power. I chose speed. I chose
to become the thing everyone fears. And you know what? I’ve never felt
more alive. Even though I’m mostly dead inside.”
