Overview
Deep Chapel is a small sanctuary in the Deep Tangle of Murky Chasm, a sacred space where Rot-Touched individuals gather to worship, find community, and embrace their transformation. Founded by Sister Morrigan—a former Constellation Clergy priestess who became corrupted and rejected by her order—the chapel represents a radical theological departure from traditional faith.
Here, corruption is not curse but transformation. The Voice Beneath is not enemy but teacher. Fear gives way to acceptance, rejection gives way to community, and despair gives way to a strange, unsettling peace.
The chapel itself is physically corrupted: black veins spider across the walls, the altar grows organic crystalline structures, and the air tastes of copper and otherworldly incense. Yet the space feels sacred—not in the traditional sense of purity and light, but in the sense of genuine devotion, acceptance, and transformation. Those who enter expecting horror often find kindness. Those who come seeking answers find questions they never thought to ask.
Sister Morrigan preaches daily, her sermons blending Constellation theology with Rot philosophy. She speaks of liberation from fear, of embracing change, of finding truth in what society rejects. Her followers—ranging from newly corrupted refugees to Stage 3 individuals who can barely speak—listen with devotion. Some are convinced. Others are desperate. All find refuge here when nowhere else will take them.
The Deep Chapel is controversial. The Black Sky Cartel tolerates it because Morrigan doesn’t proselytize aggressively and her followers cause no trouble. The Constellation Clergy considers it heretical and dangerous. Those who visit must confront uncomfortable questions: Is Morrigan a compassionate rebel or a dangerous cultist? Is the Rot truly transformation, or is it corruption speaking through her? Can faith exist in darkness, or is this just darkness wearing faith’s mask?

Architecture and Design
Structure
Building Type: - Converted storage chamber (originally Cartel warehouse) - Stone walls (partially natural cave) - Wooden roof (reinforced, waterproofed) - Hanging construction (swaying is noticeable)
Dimensions: - Main sanctuary: 15m × 10m - Ceiling height: 4m (low, intimate) - Side chamber: 5m × 5m (private prayer/counseling) - Exterior platform: Small (5m × 3m, entrance area)

The Altar and Iconography
The Altar
Construction: - Warped ironwood table - Organic growth (wood merging with crystal) - Black veins pulsing faintly (living appearance) - Stable despite appearance

Player Choices: - Trust Morrigan (compassionate path) - Question her (cunning check, gain insight) - Refuse help (moral stance against corruption) - Report to Clergy (betray Morrigan)
Significance: - Tests player’s views on corruption - No clear “right” answer - Consequences ripple through storyline - Morrigan becomes ally or enemy
Theological Philosophy
Rot-Touched Theology
Core Doctrine: - Rot is not evil, it is change - Voice Beneath is truth-speaker - Constellations are distant, Voice is present - Fear creates suffering, acceptance creates peace - Community is salvation
Textual Basis: - Corrupted interpretation of Constellation scriptures - New revelations from the Voice - Morrigan’s personal writings - Testimonials from transformed individuals
Practices: - Meditation with the Voice (listening to whispers) - Acceptance rituals (embrace transformation) - Community bonding (mutual support) - Rejection of fear (psychological discipline)
Comparison to Orthodox Faith
Similarities: - Community focus - Seeking truth/meaning - Ritual and ceremony - Compassion for suffering
Differences: - Embraces corruption (vs. fighting it) - Listens to Voice (vs. Constellations) - Rejects purity (vs. seeking it) - Accepting death/transformation (vs. preservation)
Philosophical Questions
Unanswered: - Is this genuine faith or corruption-induced delusion? - Can Morrigan’s kindness coexist with Rot’s nature? - Are followers making free choices? - Is acceptance wisdom or surrender? - Does the end (comfort) justify means (embracing Rot)?
