Character Quest: The Material

Alchemist Kael needs Rot samples for his cure research. But acquiring corrupted tissue ethically—is that even possible?”

Type: Character Quest (Alchemist Kael), Moral Dilemma
Stages: 3
Difficulty: Intermediate
Key Character: Alchemist Kael Greythorn

Summary

Kael Greythorn, the brilliant but morally compromised alchemist of Glimmering Spire, asks you to acquire Rot-Touched tissue samples. He’s developing Theta-7, a potential cure. But how do you obtain samples ethically? Do you care about ethics? Should you?

Stages

Stage 1: The Request

Kael explains: “I need fresh samples. Stage 2 corruption, living subjects. The Clergy won’t help. Will you?”

Stage 2: Acquisition Method

Choice A: [Hunt Rot-Beasts (Strength)]
Kill corrupted creatures, harvest tissue. Ethically clear but less useful (+5 samples, lower quality).

Choice B: [Volunteer Agreement (Cunning)]
Find willing Rot-Touched (Weeping Halls). Sister Morrigan facilitates. Ethical but empowers Rot-Touched (+10 samples, -10 Clergy rep).

Choice C: [Corpse Robbery (Cunning)]
Steal from recent dead. Unethical but efficient (+8 samples, guilt).

Choice D: [Forced Extraction ((Strength) + Corruption 30+)]
Kidnap and harvest. Monstrous but effective (+15 samples, -30 all factions if discovered, +Corruption).

Stage 3: Delivery & Consequence

Kael uses samples to advance research: - If ethical source: Clergy approves, slower progress - If volunteer: Rot-Touched grateful, Clergy suspicious - If stolen: No one knows (hidden guilt flag) - If forced: Kael horrified but uses them anyway (complicity)

Outcome: Research progresses. Cure possibility increases. Your morality defined.

Follow-up Quest: “The Formula” (Kael perfects cure, now what?)
