Amalgam-Beast - The Fused Horror Amalgam-Beast - The Fused Horror

Description

Amalgam-beasts are the most horrifying manifestation of the Rot—multiple corrupted beings fused into a single massive horror. Imagine dozens of bodies—human, animal, and things that were neither—merged together into a writhing mass of limbs, heads, and torsos that moves with terrible purpose. They are mobile nightmares, screaming with multiple voices, attacking with dozens of limbs, and absorbing victims into their mass to grow larger.

No two amalgam-beasts look alike. Each is a unique horror, shaped by whatever beings were absorbed into it. Some are mostly human (recognizable faces twisted in agony). Others are mostly animal (fur, scales, feathers mixed grotesquely). Most are incomprehensible fusions where you can’t tell where one body ends and another begins. They ooze corruption, spread Rot with their presence, and leave trails of black fluid wherever they move.

What makes them truly terrifying is the screaming. They vocalize constantly—dozens of voices crying out simultaneously in pain, rage, confusion, or something worse. Some voices beg for death. Some laugh maniacally. Some whisper the Voice Beneath’s words. And some—the worst ones—call out names of people they once knew, in voices that are almost recognizable.

Amalgam-beasts exist only in The Hollow, where corruption is so intense that Stage 4 beings don’t die but instead fuse with others, creating these monstrosities. They are mercifully rare—perhaps a dozen in the entire Hollow—but each one is a catastrophe waiting to happen. Killing them is nearly impossible. Avoiding them is the only sensible strategy.

Physical Characteristics

Appearance (Variable)

Size: - Height: 3-5 meters - Width: 4-6 meters - Mass: Tons (dozens of bodies) - Shape: Irregular, constantly shifting

Composition: - Dozens of fused bodies - Human, animal, unknown - Merged at molecular level (not just stuck together) - Boundaries unclear (where does one body end?)

Limbs: - Dozens (arms, legs, tentacles, wings, tails) - Emerge from mass at random points - Function independently - Some human, some animal, some neither - Coordinated (somehow)

Heads: - Multiple (5-20) - Various stages of recognizability - Some still have faces (twisted in agony) - Others are just mouths - All vocalize

Skin/Surface: - Patchwork (different textures) - Oozing corruption (black fluid) - Pulsing (visible internal movement) - Warm (fever-hot) - Smells like death and copper

Eyes: - Dozens (scattered across mass) - Glowing green or red - Track independently - Never blink - Some weep black tears

Behavior and Abilities

Movement

Locomotion: - Crawls using dozens of limbs - Surprisingly fast (faster than humans) - Can climb walls - Can squeeze through openings (body is fluid) - Leaves trail of corruption

Hunting: - Doesn’t hunt (doesn’t need food) - Attacks anything living - Driven by hunger? Rage? Voice commands? - Relentless pursuit

Combat Abilities

Multiple Attacks: - Dozens of limbs strike simultaneously - Grab, bite, crush, tear - Overwhelming offense - Difficult to defend against all

Absorption: - Grappled victims pulled into mass - Absorbed over minutes (conscious, screaming) - Become part of amalgam - Fate worse than death - Beast grows larger

Regeneration: - Heals rapidly (minutes) - Severed limbs regrow - Only fire prevents healing - Nearly unkillable

Corruption Aura: - Radiates intense Rot (10m radius) - Prolonged exposure = infection - Touch = immediate corruption - Breathing near it = risk

The Screaming: - Constant vocalization (multiple voices) - Psychological horror - Some voices recognizable (absorbed victims) - Begging, laughing, crying, whispering - Sanity check required

Weaknesses (Limited)

Fire: - Only effective weapon - Prevents regeneration - Causes pain (it screams more) - Difficult to apply (it’s mobile)

Dismemberment: - Temporarily disables - Limbs regrow - Must destroy completely - Requires sustained assault

Holy Power: - Constellation blessings harm it - Sanctification slows it - Not enough to kill (usually) - Buys time to flee

Isolation: - Can’t absorb if alone - Stops growing - Eventually weakens (maybe) - Unconfirmed

Origins and Creation

How They Form

Theory 1: Spontaneous Fusion - Multiple Stage 4 beings in close proximity - Rot fuses them together - Unintentional (natural process) - Rare conditions required

Theory 2: Voice Creation - Voice Beneath creates them deliberately - Guards for The Hollow - Intentional (purpose-built) - Terrifying implications

Theory 3: Collective Corruption - Corrupted beings seek each other - Merge voluntarily (seeking wholeness?) - Psychological drive - Disturbing but possible

Truth: Unknown (no one studies them long enough)

The Consciousness Question

Are They Conscious? - Do absorbed beings remain aware? - Is there collective consciousness? - Or is it mindless horror?

Evidence For Awareness: - Voices call out names - Some coordination suggests thought - Tactical behavior - Screaming suggests suffering

Evidence Against: - Behavior is bestial - No communication attempts - Pure aggression - Might be automatic

The Horror: - If conscious: Dozens of minds trapped, suffering - If not: Dozens of bodies puppeteered by Rot - Both options are nightmares

Encounter Scenarios

The Ambush

Setup: Party exploring The Hollow

Complication: Amalgam-beast appears - Multiple attacks simultaneously - Absorption risk - Regeneration - Psychological horror

Options: - Fight (probably die) - Flee (wise choice) - Use fire (if available) - Pray (might help)

The Absorbed Friend

Setup: Companion absorbed into amalgam-beast

Complication: They’re still conscious (maybe) - Calling for help - Begging for death - Part of the horror now

Moral Choice: - Rescue (impossible) - Mercy kill (kill entire beast) - Flee (abandon them) - All options are terrible

The Hunt

Setup: Hired to kill amalgam-beast

Complication: It’s nearly unkillable - Requires preparation - Fire essential - Multiple fighters needed - High mortality expected

Reward: Legendary (if successful)

In-World Documents

Warning (Carved at Hollow Entrance)

AMALGAM-BEASTS WITHIN

If you see one: - Do not fight (you will lose) - Do not let it grab you (absorption) - Do not listen to voices (they’re not your friends anymore) - Run

If it grabs you: - Pray for quick death - You won’t get it

If companion is absorbed: - They’re gone - Don’t try to save them - Mercy kill if you can - Flee if you can’t

Survivor’s Testimony (284 S.)

We were exploring The Hollow. Stupid. We knew better.

It came from the shadows. Mass of bodies. Dozens of limbs. Screaming.

It grabbed Darius. He screamed. It pulled him in. I watched him disappear into the mass.

Then I heard his voice. From inside the thing. Calling my name. Begging for help.

I ran. I’m a coward. I left him.

But what could I do? Fight that thing? Die too?

I hear his voice in my nightmares. Still calling. Still begging.

I should have mercy-killed him. Should have tried.

But I ran.

I’m alive. He’s part of that thing.

I don’t know which is worse.

“Amalgam-beasts are proof that the Rot isn’t just corruption—it’s transformation into something that should not exist. They’re violations of natural law, affronts to sanity, and walking nightmares. They’re what happens when corruption reaches its ultimate expression: the fusion of multiple beings into singular horror. They’re rare. They’re unkillable. And they’re the reason no one goes to The Hollow unless they’re desperate, suicidal, or both. If you see one, run. If you can’t run, pray. If prayer doesn’t work, accept that you’re about to become part of something that will scream your name forever.”
